As it turns out, the colour difference can vary between two people’s eyes, depending on where in the room they’re looking.

For example, if you’re standing at the back of a darkened room, a person with a white pupil and a darker-coloured lens will see more red than a person wearing the same pair of sunglasses.

Taylor says this is “a really good indication” of what the colour of a person’s eyes might look like.

And if you’ve lost sight or you’re having problems seeing at night, the same difference could mean you’re seeing colours other than red, green and blue.

What you need is a mirror that’s “close enough to the lens” that it can measure this difference, he explains.

He’s now looking to find a company to develop the mirror that does just this.

Using the same technology, the researchers will be able to measure the differences in colours in real-life.
